You have a wealthy, opulent neighbour who seems to have all the latest and greatest of things, and frequently attracts the bright lights and the who’s who crowd. So what do you do? You try to keep up and show that though you’re not as lavish as the guy next door, you’re not exactly a pauper next to the prince and you’ve got some stuff goin’ on too. And that’s what Johor Bahru did.
Legoland Malaysia Resort opened in Johor, the Malaysian region closest to Singapore, in 2012. Since then it has been a beneficiary of the visitor traffic that its rich neighbour regularly attracts. A theme park made of what is probably the most brilliant toy mankind ever invented, it is a child’s paradise, especially to those in the pre-school and early primary school ages, whose curiosity and creativity are best tickled with Lego bricks. With the ease of crossing the Singapore-Malaysia border, it will be difficult to explain to a child why a Singapore visit does not include Legoland Malaysia in the itinerary.
And as a visiting mother from a western country exclaimed upon seeing her children scamper off at the entrance to the Legoland Hotel, “Oh my God! The kids are in heaven!”.
